Problem encountered#

You recently changed the DNS of your domain name so that it points to our hosting servers but you still access your old site, you get a DNS error or you have just ordered hosting with a new domain that is not working.

Cause#

The DNS were changed too recently or you have a DNS cache on your computer.

Solution#

You have just pointed your domain to our DNS#

DNS propagation can take several hours. In general, you need to wait an average of 4 hours after a DNS change for it to take full effect.

Your domain has just been created#

When a domain name is created, we recommend waiting an average of 4 to 6 hours so that it is properly propagated across global DNS servers.

Your domain has been pointing to our DNS for more than 4 hours#

You can try flushing your DNS cache to speed up the propagation process. To do this, depending on your OS, you need to perform the following steps:

On Windows

  1. Press the Windows + R keys at the same time and type **cmd** in the Run window
  2. In the command prompt window, type the command ipconfig /flushdns

On MacOS

  1. Open the Launchpad and search for the Terminal application
  2. Type the command **sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder**
  3. Enter your password when the console asks for it

The problem persists despite flushing the DNS cache#

As a last resort, you can replace the DNS of your computer with public DNS servers. We can recommend the public DNS resolvers offered by Cloudflare and the Apnic.

On Windows

  1. Right-click the network icon in your taskbar and click Open Network and Internet settings
  2. In the Change your network settings section, click Change adapter options
  3. Finally, right-click the active network adapter and select Properties from the dropdown list
  4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to configure your IPv4 DNS, then click the Properties button
  5. In the new window, check the box Use the following DNS server addresses, enter 1.1.1.1 as Preferred DNS server and 1.0.0.1 as Alternate DNS server
  6. Confirm by clicking OK
  7. Then click Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) to configure your IPv6 DNS, then click the Properties button
  8. In the new window, check the box Use the following DNS server addresses, enter 2606:4700:4700::1111 as Preferred DNS server and 2606:4700:4700::1001 as Alternate DNS server
  9. Confirm by clicking OK
  10. Restart your browser so that this change is properly taken into account

On MacOS

  1. Open the Launchpad and search for the System Preferences application
  2. Go to the Network tab and select your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network adapter, which appears as Connected
  3. Click the Advanced... button, then go to the DNS tab
  4. In the DNS Servers column, click the + button and enter 1.1.1.1
  5. Click the + button again and enter 1.0.0.1
  6. Click the + button again and enter 2606:4700:4700::1111
  7. Click the + button again and enter 2606:4700:4700::1001
  8. Finally, click the OK button, then Apply
