Different VPS Cloud offering generations

Overview

We have implemented a nomenclature system to clearly identify the different hardware generations on which our VPS offerings are deployed. This system allows our customers to know precisely which infrastructure their server is hosted on.

Objective

Over time, our infrastructure evolves with new processors, improved storage technologies, and network optimizations. The generation system provides complete transparency about the hardware used and facilitates communication between our customers and our technical support.

Nomenclature Structure

Each offering is identified by a code composed of two elements:

[Codename] G[Number]

  • Codename: Identifies the major hardware generation (e.g., Helium, Silver, Titanium)
  • G[Number]: Identifies the minor revision of this generation (G1, G2, G3...)

System Evolution

The system operates on two evolution levels:

Revision change (G1 → G2 → G3)

  • Minor infrastructure modifications
  • Technical adjustments without major impact
  • Changes to the offering content (resources, pricing, options...)
  • No significant hardware change

Major generation change (Helium → Neon → Argon)

  • New machine generation
  • Server hardware change
  • Major infrastructure evolution
  • Significantly different performance or characteristics

Progression Example

Helium G1 → Helium G2 (optimization on the same hardware)
Helium G2 → Neon G1 (new hardware, new generation)
Neon G1 → Neon G2 (optimization on Neon hardware)
